AMAHORO GATHERING RWANDA

KIGALI - MAY 20 -28,200

Amahoro Friends - This past May we had our first Amahoro Africa Gathering in Kampala, Uganda and it was a life changing experience for the 200 African and non African leaders who were present. This unprecedented international gathering of leaders came with a passion to see the kingdom of God realized in Africa and around the world and to explore the emerging church in postcolonial Africa. It was an amazing time!

Our next Amahoro Gathering will be from May 20 – 28, 2008 in Kigali, Rwanda with an emphasis on the Gospel of Reconciliation. International leaders will gather together as a learning community to explore “The Gospel of Reconciliation”, build relationships, share stories and experience what God is up to in this part of Africa. Field trips during the Amahoro Gathering Rwanda will include Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

We want to extend to you an invitation to join us in Rwanda for this very timely Gathering where we will look at how reconciliation intersects with justice, forgiveness, remembrance, truth, restitution and worship. We will also consider opportunities for pre-emptive reconciliation in the name and spirit of Jesus.

Rwanda’s story and her courageous, humble leaders will guide us in this conversation. Leaders in peacemaking and reconciliation work from Latin American, Bosnia, Palestine, Israel, Kashmir and Northern Ireland will bring their wisdom and stories as well. No matter where we come from we, as followers of Christ, bear the calling to live out the ministry of reconciliation. The world is aching for peace and the transformative power of reconciliation.

The conversation partners that we have invited to The Gathering include: the Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bishop Mvume Dandala (All Africa Conference of Churches), Antoine Rutayisire (Africa Entreprise), Rev. Cecil Kerr (Northern Ireland), Emmanuel Katongole (Uganda) and Brian McLaren, among others.

Interview with founder, Claude
Amahoro means peace. It is a word of Bantu origin used widely across Africa . It has special meaning in places like Rwanda , Burundi and Congo , where violence and genocide have inflicted such pain and suffering. When people from various tribes embrace, shake hands or kiss, and say "amahoro," they are expressing a deep hope for a better future.
