Amahoro Africa Gatherings are places where African voices, African leaders, African methods and solutions come together to address African issues. Africa has entered what historians and sociologists are calling the Post-Colonial Era.  The future of this era is uncertain, but there are voices from throughout Africa calling for an era of innovation, of creativity, of justice, of peace, of hope. What will the church in Post-Colonial Africa look like?  What yokes must be thrown off so that the Gospel of the Kingdom can go forth to transform and empower a continent in desperate need of the transformation that Christ offers?  What will the church that is emerging in Africa look like?  What concrete steps can be taken to bring hope to the suffering people of Africa ?  These questions, among others, are vital to the future of the church in Africa , questions that must be asked by responsible Christian leaders looking to see their continent transformed.

Amahoro Africa Gatherings across East Africa are design to engage African leaders in responding to those questions. They meet together for several days of constructive dialogue, planting seeds of thought and preparing the soil for new partnerships.  These hopeful and dedicated leaders seek to define and embody what it means to “be the church” in the emerging post-colonial world of Africa .  Through their conversations and experiences, these African followers of Jesus seek His Kingdom together, allowing their conversation to become the framework of long-term partnerships. For the most part, these are young emerging leaders doing grassroots work in their communities in the name of Jesus.  They are full of energy, ideas and a great depth of compassion for the poor.  They are working with AIDS victims, rescuing prostitutes from brothels (and transforming the red-light district in the process); some are reaching out to the youth culture in big cities and even pastoring congregations with creative ministries.  Imagine regional gatherings with them all together in robust and rich conversation?

We do this in three phases: Convene / Converse / Connect

Convene: We approach these complex issues by convening innovative, grassroots, emerging leaders from across East Africa . We meet in different settings:

  • East Africa Gatherings
  • National Gatherings
  • Regional Gatherings

Converse: These thoughtful, imaginative gatherings invite Africans to set their own agendas and craft their own solutions. In our view, such strategies are more likely to win acceptance and make a lasting impact than ready-made responses imposed from abroad.

Connect: Connecting potential partners is the foundation of what we do. We believe that good friendships give rise to strong and lasting partnerships, and that is what energizes us in our work. These gatherings provide opportunities for leaders to be connected to each other, the Church worldwide and the resources they need to be effective in impacting their communities for the Kingdom.

To be part of one of those gatherings please see our Event Calendar.

“The Christian leader has something much more important to do than pursue the godless.  The leader’s task is to equip saints until they are like Christ, and history and the God of history waits for him to do this job.  It is so easy for the leader today to get caught up in illusory goals, pursuing the marks of success which come from our training as Christian leaders or which are simply imposed by the world.  It is big, always BIG, and BIGGER STILL!  That is the contemporary imperative.  Thus we fail to take seriously the nurture and training of those, however few, who stand constantly by us.”  The Spirit of the Disciplines by Dallas Willard
