Towards The Gospel of Transformation

I want to share an exciting new development with Amahoro Africa and I want to invite your prayer and support in this process. This is clearly the next step for Amahoro Africa, and what we came up with is a training tool that we are calling “Toward The Gospel of Transformation” which will have 3 elements: Theology – Context – Praxis.”

Theology: One of our challenges is that Christianity has presented itself as a system of dogmatic and disjointed belief instead of the unified story of God. As Africans, we understand stories, we have a harder time with systems - we understand conversation - we have a harder time with lectures, we understand community well being - we have a harder time with church denominational lines. We need to understand the comprehensive story of God, from creation to culmination, which presents a backdrop for all other details to make sense. A theological framework is a necessary prerequisite for thoughtful praxis.

Context: In the West, we are familiar with the term post-modern, recognizing the end of modern ways of thinking. In Africa, it is more appropriate to speak of post-colonial, the era after colonial power and influence. How do we understand the Gospel apart from colonial and modernist missionary-era constraints? A Gospel not of coercion, power and evacuation strategies, but a Gospel that cares for the poor, the marginalized and those who suffer from unjust systems. Leaders need to explore the gospel imperatives in light of their cultural context. What would the Church in the post colonial Africa look like?Praxis: How does your story/your life in your community serve the purpose of the big story, the story of God? With an improving theological framework and more astute cultural understanding, leaders will have greater resources - spiritual, intellectual, and theological - to address thoughtful praxis. Praxis can be summed up as thoughtful or right action. Our hope is that a foundation will be laid for African leaders to begin to sketch out praxis for their unique communities. Africans are people of action; we hope to equip them with tools to marry reflection and action for stronger outcomes.

Your support of this project will empower thousands of emerging leaders on the continent of Africa, to build a solid understanding of the big story of God, an understanding of their own African story, and then the articulation of praxis in a local community. Your support will fight against the effects of second hand theology/faith, enabling them to bring the way of Christ and the Kingdom of God to their own communities.

Your support and investment now will initiate and carry out this important work and will change communities in Africa. Your prayer support and financial support of any size will bring us close to this timely and important tool for the Church today! We are looking at raising $10,000 for the next 4 moths for this project.
