The Amahoro conversation continues… this May we will all convene in Mombasa, Kenya for The Gathering.  This is our annual time to convene, converse and connect around Christ and share about the transforming work happening in our various communities across Africa (and beyond).  We also reflect on how His word informs, instructs and illumines what we are doing, thus bringing right thinking and right practice together to strengthen our Kingdom ventures. 

The Gathering, now entering it’s forth year, feels like a family reunion as we return to friendships and conversations that nourish us.  Each year new friends join in and bring an added richness and more stories that encourage and inspire us.  As this community comes together - these theologians, community organizers, Africans and friends of Africa, bold pastors and ecclesiastical misfits – we embrace the Spirit’s work among us.  We are always surprised by the presence of the Spirit and His transforming work in our midst.

This year we will reflect on Christ, Creation & Community.  Our conversations will invite us to think about the theology of creation and how that informs our view of the world around us.  Africa is already experiencing shifts in climate as evidenced in altered rain patterns and deforestation.  The affects are immediate in agricultural societies, and also impact the cities with power outages and even water shortages.  When you look across Africa you know the environment is under stress, and that there are consequences for our local communities.  There is a growing sense among us that we need to pay attention to these natural changes and act.  But we want to reflect on what God says about His creation, how He demonstrates His care for our world and learn from Him and one another how to move forward in caring for creation and our communities.  Christ is committed to His creation, and we want to follow Him and share His passion for the cosmos.
